Eco-Structure's annual Evergreen Awards competition recognizes excellence in building design and environmental performance.
2010 Rules and Regulations
Catgories
Ecommercial*: Environmentally responsible, high-performing commercial, industrial, or institutional projects
Greenhouse*: Environmentally responsible, high-performing residential projects (including single family and multi-family structures)
On the Boards: Unbuilt commercial, industrial, institutional or residential projects that address environmental performance and sustainable design and construction
Perspective: Nominate a thought leader and industry professional who is moving the green building movement forward
* Entries in these categories are judged on both design excellence and building performance. Please submit as much actual energy- and water-consumption data as possible with each entry. A minimum of 12 months of actual data is strongly encouraged.
Eligibility
Architects, developers, contractors, and other building professionals practicing in the U.S., Canada, or Mexico may submit projects in this year’s competition. Ecommercial and Greenhouse entries must have been completed after Jan. 1, 2006. On the Boards entries must be unbuilt. Green building professionals may be entered as individuals in the Perspective category.
Projects that have won other awards are eligible. Projects than have won past Evergreen Awards, however, are not eligible for re-entry.
Judging
An independent panel of respected building professionals will select winners from each category based on integrated-design approach, quality of design and function, sustainable initiatives. Judging will take place in July 2010. Winners will be notified by September 1, 2010, published in the November/December 2010 issue of Eco-Structure, featured online at eco-structure.com, and honored at an event during Greenbuild international Conference and Expo in November 2010.
2010 Deadlines and Fees
Deadline for registration and entry: July 1, 2010
Fees: $100 for first entry; $75 for any additional entries. A project may only be entered in one category, however a firm may enter more than one project in the competition.
Late entries will be accepted from July 1 until close of business on July 13, 2009, however a late fee of $50 per entry will apply, raising entry prices to $150 for first entries and $125 for any additional entries.
Absolutely no entries will be accepted after July 13, 2010.
How to Enter
Entering a project in the competition is a three-step process:
1. Download the entry PDF here
, complete the required fields, and submit the completed PDF via email to evergreenawards@hanleywood.com
2. Log on to events.SignUp4.com/2010EvergreenAwards and register your submission. You must submit payment through the SignUp4 site.
3. After steps 1 and 2 are completed, you will be emailed instructions on how to upload your entry/entries to adesignated ftp site. All entry components MUST be uploaded. Mailing CDs and other means of submission will not be accepted.
Ecommercial, Greenhouse and On the Boards entries must upload:
1. A maximum of 15 high-resolution, professional-quality digital images of the completed project. For On the Boards entries, renderings and drawings should be submitted in lieu of completed photography. All images should have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi and be at least 5 by 7 inches. Raw files are preferred. Do not compress files or make color corrections. In addition, site plans, schematic drawings and the like are encouraged; they should be in an 8 ½- by 11-inch format.
2. A PDF contact sheet of the submitted images, renderings and/or drawings.
3. A, 1,000-1,500 word anonymous narrative addressing the following project aspects:
• Building type, location, square footage and completion date
• Integrated design approach
• Building envelope from foundation to roof, highlighting why specific materials were chosen and how they contribute to greening the project
• Daylighting
• Mechanical equipment
• Indoor air quality
• Renewable energy (if applicable)
• Proximity to public transportation, shopping, etc.
• Energy-usage projections based on modeling
• Grants/incentives received
• What makes this project innovative?
Perspective entrants must upload:
1. A headshot (at least 300 dpi in resolution and a minimum of 5x7 in size) of the nominee
2. A narrative no longer than 1,000 words thoroughly addressing the following:
• How/when the nominee became involved with green building
• Accomplishments within the green-building industry
• Supportive documents, which may include images of projects and/or testimonials
Entries that are missing information will be automatically disqualified.
